and deserves your support
since she brought you into the world
and waits for you to leave it
both of you alone, though she with her dog.
To the mother:
I write to you regarding your daughter
Who weighs a heavy mind
and deserves your support
as she grows and learns and graduates
and watches your dog
wait with you by the door.
To the daughter:
I write to you regarding the feet.
They carry a heavy burden
and deserve your support.
In their beautiful shoes,
they carry you as you run about
never slowing down.
I wish you would slow down.
